An advisor, mentor, coach, author, podcaster, executive, leader, husband, father, brother, fisherman—these are all labels that have been used over the years to describe who I am and what I do. However, life offers constant opportunities to transform, grow, and explore new paths. After spending the last 9 months self-navigating through the journey of finding purpose after retirement and finally embracing that somewhat stereotypical term, I would like to share thoughts and experiences from my personal journey. My retirement podcast, ‘Walking into Retirement,’ along with the follow-on book, will delve deeper into these themes and outline a personal roadmap for the future.

The retirement podcast will be recorded during a series of walks in the UK, along with studio-based recordings featuring special guests who will share their personal experiences and journeys about finding purpose after retirement. There will be six walks in 2026, culminating in the MacMillan Cancer Support Northumberland Coast Mighty Hike

There will be six walks in 2026, culminating in the MacMillan Cancer Support Northumberland Coast Mighty Hike. Participants will enjoy the breathtaking Northumberland Coast, starting at Alnwick Castle and walking into retirement while taking in sandy beaches, rolling dunes, and an iconic finish at the historic Bamburgh Castle.
Plus there will be a series of 'guest' interviews throughout the year, exploring key aspects of retirement or 'elderescence' as we now call it.

An internationally recognised project management expert, author, and speaker whose career has blended corporate leadership with entrepreneurial creativity. Best known as my alter-ego, The Lazy Project Manager, I have had the pleasure of travelling to 28 countries so far and delivering over 500 presentations to quite a lot of people. Now, after decades in the somewhat volatile global software industry, navigating change and redundancy; my journey of reinvention through practical wisdom, humour, and insight has become my ‘norm’. This brings me to my ‘now’ as I contemplate the evolving personal meaning of purpose after retirement, identity, and what it means to be walking into retirement.
